Adult - Joint Dislocation


Dislocation means that the bone has slipped out of its normal position in the joint. Any kind of trauma such as a fall, a blow, or strain, can cause a dislocation. Dislocations can occur in the large joints (shoulder, hip, knee, elbow and ankle) or in the smaller joints (fingers and toe)

First aid to patient:

  • seek medical advice as soon as possible
  • While you're waiting for medical attention, don't move the affected joint which may damage the joint and its surrounding muscles, ligament, nerves or blood vessels
