Adult - Abscess


An abscess is an infected tender, mass generally surrounded by a red colored area. The middle of an abscess is full of pus and debris. People with weakened immune systems get certain abscesses more often.

First aid to patient:

  • Cover the abscess with a sterile gauze bandage, in order to avoid wound infection
  • Seek medical advice as soon as possible

Notes:

  • Abscess must be opened by a doctor in a procedure called incision and drainage.
  • Patient sometimes needs antibiotics treatment.
