Adult - Near Drowning


Note:

Drowning is death by suffocation that occurs within the first 24 hours after being submerged in water. In a near-drowning emergency, the sooner the rescue and first aid begin, the greater the victim's chance of survival.

First aid to patient:

  • Retrieve the victim from the water, safety of rescuer should be ensure
  • Cervical spine protection and clear the airway
  • If the victim's breathing has stopped, begin mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing as soon as you safely can.
  • Initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary
  • Send the victims to hospital as soon as possible
